Meta has unveiled an innovative real-time Avatar feature designed for video calls on Instagram and Messenger. This update was detailed in a recent blog post, highlighting that users can now engage in video calls using their Avatars, bringing a fresh interactive element to conversations on these platforms. The Avatars function similarly to Apple’s Memoji, adapting to the users’ facial expressions and mouth movements. This feature is set to be available on both Android and iOS devices.
According to the latest blog post from Meta, users have the opportunity to develop their Avatars for use in Instagram and Messenger video chats. By employing Avatars instead of disabling the camera, users can enhance their video chats, making them more engaging and sociable. A demonstration video included in the post showcases how these Avatars mimic facial expressions and mouth movements in real time.
In addition to the Avatar feature, Meta introduced animated and social stickers that can be utilized across Instagram and Facebook Stories, Reels, as well as Messenger and Threads. This allows users to communicate with animated emojis like thumbs up, applause, and facepalms, introducing a dynamic element to their messaging experience.
Furthermore, Meta is testing a new functionality within Facebook and WhatsApp that allows users to capture a live selfie to create an Avatar that closely resembles their real-life appearance. The company aims to unify the visual representation of Avatars across various platforms, including VR on Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, and WhatsApp.
Recently, Instagram rolled out a feature enabling users in the US to download Reels shared by public accounts. Adam Mosseri, the head of Instagram, announced this capability through his broadcast channel. In India, users can directly share Reels in their Stories or via chats and save their favorite clips in a designated Reels tab.
