Meta Platforms is poised to empower brands to fully develop and target advertisements using its artificial intelligence tools by the conclusion of next year, according to a report by the Wall Street Journal, which cites sources familiar with the initiative.

The company operates applications with a vast reach, boasting 3.43 billion unique active users worldwide. Its AI-driven technology is designed to create personalized ad variations, curate image backgrounds, and automate adjustments for video advertisements, making it a compelling option for advertisers seeking effective campaigns.

As outlined in the report, a brand can simply provide a product image along with a budget. Meta’s AI system will take it from there, generating the advertisement which includes appropriate images, videos, and text while also analyzing user targeting strategies for Instagram and Facebook, complete with budget recommendations.

Furthermore, Meta plans to implement features that allow advertisers to customize ads with AI, enabling viewers to see different real-time variations of the same advertisement based on criteria such as geographic location.

In communication with Reuters, the Facebook and Instagram parent company referenced CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s recent comments regarding AI-driven advertising. Zuckerberg emphasized the need for advertisers to have access to AI products that offer “measurable results at scale” in the near future and expressed aims to create a comprehensive AI platform where businesses can set objectives and budgets while automating the execution process.

In a landscape where competition is fierce, social media platforms like Snap, Pinterest, and Reddit are increasingly investing in AI and machine learning to better appeal to advertisers.

Following this announcement, shares of Meta rose nearly one percent in early trading, while stock prices of advertising agencies Interpublic Group and Omnicom Group decreased by 1.9 percent and 3.2 percent, respectively.

Meanwhile, shares of France’s Publicis Groupe SA fell by 3.8 percent, and US-listed stocks of WPP, which owns agencies such as GroupM, Ogilvy, and VM, decreased by 2.2 percent.

Although technology companies like Google and OpenAI have introduced AI tools for video and image generation, widespread adoption in the advertising sector is still uncertain as marketers grapple with concerns related to brand safety, creative oversight, and quality control.
