Meta AI is set to receive significant updates, according to an announcement made by the company on Monday. The tech giant aims to enhance its artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot by introducing features designed to create a more tailored experience for users. One of the key components of this upgrade is a memory feature that allows the chatbot to retain specific information shared by users during individual conversations, while the second feature provides personalized recommendations by analyzing user activity across social media platforms.
In a recent post on their newsroom site, Meta announced the upcoming enhancements to Meta AI. The company is currently testing a memory function that enables the chatbot to remember particular user details.
The memory feature will only operate within individual chats. Users can instruct the AI to remember certain facts, or the chatbot can automatically retain information during interactions. For example, if a user seeks breakfast ideas and the AI suggests an omelette, the user can indicate they are vegetarian, prompting the AI to remember this preference and offer only vegetarian suggestions in future queries.

While Meta has yet to disclose the types of information that can be saved by the AI, particularly concerning sensitive data such as financial or medical details, users will receive notifications each time the chatbot stores new information. They will also have the option to manually delete items from the memory.
The rollout of the memory feature is set for users on Facebook, Messenger, and WhatsApp on both iOS and Android devices in the United States and Canada.
The second enhancement allows the chatbot to gather data about users in order to generate personalized recommendations. Meta clarified that this information will be sourced from user profiles on Facebook and Instagram, along with in-app interactions like viewing Reels or engaging with posts.
According to the announcement, if a user requests suggestions for a family activity during the weekend, Meta AI will utilize data such as the user’s home location from Facebook, preferences inferred from Reels, and stored memory to recommend options like a local music concert. This recommendation feature will also be available on Facebook, Messenger, and Instagram within the US and Canada.
Importantly, the company has not clarified whether users will have control over the sharing of their personal information with Meta AI.
