Jio Platforms is reportedly collaborating with prominent technology companies, including Nvidia, with the aim of transforming the artificial intelligence (AI) landscape in India in a manner similar to its previous disruption of the telecom industry through aggressive pricing and unlimited mobile data offerings. According to recent reports, Jio is engaging with several firms to co-develop proprietary large language models (LLMs). The company aims to provide enterprises with cost-effective and customized AI-as-a-service solutions, alongside applications that leverage agentic AI. Furthermore, Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) is actively involved in the government’s India AI Mission.

Jio Platforms Is Reportedly Preparing Its AI Playbook for India

The Economic Times has indicated that Jio Platforms is set on making significant strides in the Indian AI sector by delivering affordable AI tools and applications to businesses. Citing a senior executive from the company, the report reveals that Jio is collaborating with Nvidia and other tech leaders to enhance its hardware capabilities for AI inference.

Once approved to join the India AI Mission, which is a ₹10,300 crore initiative supported by the government, Jio Platforms plans to provide GPU-as-a-service to startups and researchers, promising to offer the most competitive pricing globally. The partnership with Nvidia is reportedly focused on securing its Blackwell GPUs for this service.

The executive highlighted that Jio is concentrating on three primary facets of AI infrastructure: devices, cloud services, and high-speed broadband networks, all aimed at making AI accessible and affordable for both enterprises and individuals.

In detailing the pricing structure of the GPU service, the executive explained, “The AI Mission is a government initiative that aims to provide GPUs at a subsidized rate. For example, if the cost is ₹25 per GPU hour, the government will subsidize ₹5-10. As vendors, we (Jio and others) will compete to bring prices below that ₹25 mark.”

Earlier this year, Jio Platforms unveiled Jio Brain, a 5G-integrated AI and machine learning (ML) platform designed for enterprises. The executive indicated that the company is also exploring potential monetization strategies for this offering.

The current AI landscape in India is characterized by fragmentation, with various players providing disparate services. While large corporations like Google, Amazon, Nvidia, and Microsoft are attempting to penetrate the market with integrated AI solutions, the high pricing of their enterprise products has reportedly hindered widespread technology adoption.

If Jio can succeed in delivering comprehensive services that include user-friendly AI tools, robust backend LLMs, and cloud solutions for data processing—all at competitive prices—it could significantly hasten the adoption of AI within enterprises across the country.
