Intel has announced plans to integrate Nvidia graphics into its CPUs in the future. During a recent confirmation, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang stated that the company will provide “GPU chiplets” which Intel can deploy alongside its x86 CPU cores, moving away from the Arc integrated graphics that Intel currently produces in-house.

Despite this partnership, Intel assured that its own graphics offerings will remain in the market. A spokesperson from Intel affirmed, “We’re not discussing specific roadmaps at this time, but the collaboration is complementary to Intel’s roadmap and Intel will continue to have GPU product offerings.” This commitment echoes statements made by Intel’s Michelle Johnston Holthaus prior to her unexpected departure from the company.

A report from PCWorld raises questions about Intel’s commitment to graphics development, considering that Nvidia has significantly reduced competition in this space. Given Intel’s ongoing efforts to streamline operations for cost-saving, it remains unclear why the company would invest heavily in graphics technology where Nvidia is the dominant player. While Intel may continue to pursue its graphics initiatives, the enthusiasm surrounding new projects such as the B580 or MSI’s latest handheld devices may be tempered by the challenges ahead.

For now, observers will continue to monitor this collaboration and its implications.
