Instagram is set to roll out a new feature that allows users to share video Notes. This functionality was first introduced a year ago as a status update similar to that of WhatsApp, where only text and emojis could be posted. Now, users can create and share a two-second looping video Note with either their mutual followers or their Close Friends list. Additionally, there are hints that the platform is experimenting with a privacy feature that will give users control over who can see their Likes on posts and reels.

According to an Instagram support page, users can now post small, looping video Notes. This feature was first observed by TechCrunch. It is currently limited to videos taken with the front-facing camera and mirrors the temporary availability of Instagram Stories, remaining viewable for 24 hours. Users will need to record these videos in real-time, as existing videos cannot be uploaded from their camera gallery. This information has been corroborated by Gadgets 360.

Before sharing a video Note, users have the option to add text captions and music. They can also customize their audience by selecting between their mutual followers or their Close Friends list. A unique aspect of this feature is that video Notes will alter the thumbnail displayed on a viewer’s profile page, replacing the usual profile picture with the thumbnail of the shared video.

Furthermore, users have the option to respond to Notes with a variety of formats including text, audio, photos, videos, gifs, and stickers. When a Note receives a reaction, the corresponding content will be sent to the user as a direct message.

In related news, Instagram may unveil a new privacy setting that would allow users to control visibility over their Likes on posts and Reels. Screenshots shared by X user Hammod Oh (@ihammod_oh) reveal potential options for this feature, including settings that allow Likes to be visible to everyone, only those followed, only close friends, or not visible to anyone at all. An official announcement regarding this new privacy feature has yet to be made.
