Instagram is reportedly working on a new capability that would enable users to share their active Spotify tracks with others in real-time, according to a source familiar with the development. This feature, known as Share from Spotify, is expected to operate through Instagram Notes—brief text updates visible in direct messages (DMs) that can be shared with followers. Currently, Instagram allows users to share either 30-second clips of songs on Notes or songs currently playing in Stories, but neither option offers real-time sharing. This situation could soon change.
Integration with Spotify
In a recent post on Threads, tipster and reverse engineer Alessandro Paluzzi unveiled information suggesting that the ‘Share from Spotify’ feature is under development. The new functionality might enable users to “continuously share” their Spotify listening activity, indicating a real-time integration. A leaked screenshot reveals a prompt stating, “You can stop sharing anytime.”
Presently, users can share songs on Notes, but they can only access tracks from Instagram’s catalog, which requires manual search. While users can select specific sections to share, they are limited to a 30-second duration. The expected new feature could allow users to link their accounts to Spotify, granting access to an extensive library of music across various genres and languages, and enabling automatic sharing of what they are currently playing.
There are indications that the collaboration between Meta Platforms, Instagram’s parent company, and Spotify may extend further. Technologist Chris Messina informed TechCrunch that a “SpotifyiOS.framework” has recently been incorporated into Instagram, coinciding with the launch of Instagram version 338.0 on iOS. This integration suggests that additional music-oriented features leveraging Spotify’s capabilities could soon enhance the Instagram experience.
