Instagram, the social media platform owned by Meta, is introducing a new feature that enables users to incorporate song lyrics into their Reels, similar to the existing functionality in Instagram Stories. This update follows a period during which Instagram had been experimenting with several features aimed at enhancing user experience on the platform, including collaborations and feed presentation changes.
Adam Mosseri, head of Instagram, shared the announcement via his Broadcast Channel. He noted that many users had been manually including song lyrics in their videos, leading to the development of this new option. Mosseri expressed hope that this feature would facilitate more effective self-expression for users, while also indicating that the team is actively working on additional features for Reels.
To add lyrics to an Instagram Reel, users need to tap on the music icon, choose a song, and then swipe left to include the lyrics. This process mirrors the Music feature already present in Instagram Stories, where users have had the ability to add song lyrics to their posts for some time.
In a recent statement, Mosseri also mentioned that Instagram is piloting a feature that allows users to invite friends to collaborate on their feed posts, leading to shared carousel posts. Once a user accepts an invitation, they will have the option to click ‘Add to post’ to include additional images.
Additionally, there are indications that users may soon have access to a feed that exclusively showcases content from verified accounts. Instagram revealed that it is testing this feature and gathering feedback from users. The proposed offerings include a feed from Following, one from Favorites, and another highlighting posts from Meta Verified users, potentially increasing visibility for businesses and creators.
In related news, Instagram and Facebook recently unveiled subscription plans that allow users in Europe to access the platforms without advertisements. Those in the European Union (EU), European Economic Area (EEA), and Switzerland can subscribe for EUR 9.99 (approximately Rs. 880) monthly for ad-free access on the web, or EUR 12.99 (roughly Rs. 1,100) monthly for ad-free use on iOS and Android applications.
