On Tuesday, Instagram launched its Edits app to the public, marking its introduction nearly three months after the initial announcement. This mobile video editing tool offers an array of creative features including high-quality video capture, keyframing, automatic captions, and adjustable camera settings for resolution, frame rate, and dynamic range. Users of Edits can take advantage of artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance their video editing process with features like AI image animation and various effects. The app is accessible on both iOS and Android platforms.
Features of the Edits App
Meta Platforms, the parent company of both Instagram and Edits, announced that the Edits app is designed to empower creators to express themselves freely across multiple platforms, rather than being confined to Facebook and Instagram. It aims to streamline the video editing experience by facilitating the capture of high-quality footage and providing efficient editing tools.
Users can customize their camera settings for frame rate, resolution, and dynamic range, allowing for the creation of videos up to 10 minutes long in superior quality compared to Instagram. The app includes quick access to editing tools like touch-ups, a one-tap green screen, a music catalog, and timer and countdown features.
The keyframing functionality in Edits allows users to precisely animate the position, rotation, and scale of clips at designated moments. Users can also transform still images into videos using the AI image animation capability. Additionally, the app supports background changes with a green screen and video overlays. A broad selection of typefaces, sound and voice effects, filters, stickers, and various other elements are available. Furthermore, the app enhances audio quality by eliminating background noise and includes automatically generated, customizable captions. An Ideas tab is also featured, serving as a centralized space for capturing creative thoughts.
Videos produced with Edits can be effortlessly shared across Meta’s applications like Facebook and Instagram. Creators also have the option to export their videos and share them on other platforms without any watermarks. The app is equipped with a live insights dashboard that provides detailed engagement metrics for both followers and non-followers, including metrics like skip rate.
Initially exclusive to iOS, the Edits app is now available for download from both the App Store and Google Play Store.
