On Monday, India’s competition authority announced its approval of a settlement proposition submitted by Google’s parent company, Alphabet, concerning the Android TV case. The case had alleged the company engaged in anti-competitive behavior.
The Competition Commission of India (CCI) indicated that Google misused its dominant position with the Android operating system in the smart television segment in India, which stands as a significant market for the firm.
Allegations against Google included claims that the tech giant obstructed other businesses from utilizing or developing altered versions of Android for smart TVs.
In response to these allegations, Google put forth a settlement request that suggested offering a standalone license for its Play Store and Play Services specifically for Android smart TVs in India, moving away from the practice of bundling these services.
Additionally, the CCI sanctioned a total settlement payment of Rs. 202.4 million (approximately $2.38 million) that Google is required to remit.
