Hertz has announced a new initiative to sell used cars directly through Amazon Autos. The company’s previously owned vehicles are now available in select markets including Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, and Seattle, as noted on Hertz’s website. Plans are also underway to expand to additional locations in the future.
Technology News reported that, at the time of writing, there were no active listings for Hertz vehicles on the platform. According to CNBC, customers residing within 75 miles of these initial cities could begin exploring the offerings on Amazon Autos as early as Wednesday. Hertz has indicated ambitions to expand availability to 45 locations throughout the United States, aligning their offerings with the broader network of Amazon Autos locations.
According to Hertz’s announcement, customers can now conveniently shop for their “well-maintained vehicles” on the extensive Amazon platform. The process allows shoppers to select a vehicle through Amazon Autos and then pick it up at their local Hertz Car Sales location within three days.
Amazon launched its Autos service in December, focusing initially on new and “certified pre-owned” Hyundai vehicles through partnerships with Hyundai dealers in specific regions. Although Amazon users could previously browse car showrooms and compare prices, they were not able to purchase vehicles directly through the site. This changed when select Hyundai dealers began listing their cars for sale online.
With this move, Hertz becomes the first car rental company to partner with Amazon in the Autos segment, offering a diverse range of used vehicles from manufacturers such as Ford, Toyota, Chevrolet, and Nissan.
