Supergiant Games’ celebrated roguelike, Hades, is set to launch on iOS as part of Netflix Games on March 19. The streaming giant officially announced the release date for Apple’s mobile platform on Tuesday, also opening pre-registration for the highly anticipated action title. Hades originally made its debut on Nintendo Switch, PC, and Mac in 2020, followed by a release on PlayStation and Xbox platforms in the subsequent year. Netflix subscribers will have the opportunity to enjoy the game at no additional cost on their iOS devices.
On Tuesday, Netflix shared the iOS launch date for Hades on X (formerly known as Twitter), along with a trailer that highlighted the pre-registration process. While Netflix Games titles have typically been available on both iOS and Android platforms, Hades will solely join the library on iOS, with no plans for an Android release from the developers at Supergiant Games.
The mobile version of Hades was initially announced as part of Netflix Games back in November of last year, along with other indie favorites like Braid and Death’s Door. This roguelike dungeon crawler places players in the role of Zagreus, the brooding son of Hades, as he endeavors to escape the Underworld in his pursuit of Mount Olympus. Throughout various runs, players uncover the tales and secrets of the Underworld’s inhabitants.
The game was met with widespread acclaim upon its release and received a nomination for Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2020, ultimately winning awards for Best Action Game and Best Indie Game.
Supergiant Games is currently developing a sequel, with Hades II officially revealed at The Game Awards 2022. Although a specific release date has not yet been announced, Supergiant indicated late last year that Hades II is expected to enter Early Access in the second quarter of 2024 on both Steam and the Epic Games Store.
Netflix Games, which boasts a library of over 80 titles available for subscribers to play without charge, is actively working to incorporate prominent games alongside a variety of smaller and indie offerings. The subscription service expanded its collection in December by adding Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition to both Android and iOS, further enriching its lineup of beloved gaming franchises.
