Hades 2, the highly anticipated roguelike action-RPG developed by Supergiant Games, made its debut in early access on Steam and the Epic Games Store on Monday. Following its launch, the sequel has rapidly ascended the ranks, becoming one of the top-played titles on Valve’s platform this week. Impressively, Hades 2 has already surpassed the all-time peak concurrent player count of its predecessor, Hades, more than doubling it. Although Supergiant Games has not disclosed a timeline for the game’s full v1.0 release, there are plans to bring Hades 2 to PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo consoles in the future.
As highlighted by VGC, the game achieved a remarkable peak concurrent player count of 79,276 within just nine hours of its release, effectively doubling the player count of the original Hades on its first day in early access.
Data from SteamDB indicates that the all-time peak concurrent player count for Hades was 37,749. In contrast, Hades 2 has reached an impressive peak of 103,567 concurrent players. At the moment, the early access version reports 62,984 active players on Steam.
According to Supergiant Games, Hades 2 features more environments, enemies, and fully-voiced characters than the original game’s final version, with additional content slated to be introduced. While players can explore a substantial amount in the early access version, the ultimate conclusion of the game’s storyline will not be revealed until the full v1.0 launch.
The developer plans to collect feedback from early access users and intends to roll out the first major update for Hades 2 later this year. The title is projected to remain in early access “at least through the end of 2024,” the studio announced.
On Steam, Hades 2 has garnered overwhelmingly positive reception from players, with a consensus rating reflecting the support of over 11,000 user reviews.
The sequel was first announced during The Game Awards 2022, showcasing the familiar roguelike dungeon crawler gameplay that fans loved in the original. Hades 2 introduces a new protagonist, Melinoë, the immortal princess of the underworld, as she confronts the Titan of Time. The sequel promises new locations, challenges, upgrade systems, and much more. Hades is currently available for early access purchase on both Steam and the Epic Games Store.
