The second trailer for Grand Theft Auto 6 has shattered viewing records across various social media platforms, with developer Rockstar Games announcing it as the “biggest video launch of all time.” The highly anticipated trailer reportedly amassed an incredible 475 million views across multiple platforms, outpacing the launches of some major film trailers, including those for Deadpool & Wolverine and The Fantastic Four. Within just two days, the trailer garnered over 85 million views on YouTube alone.
GTA 6 New Trailer Shatters Records
Rockstar Games disclosed the trailer’s total viewership figures to The Hollywood Reporter, stating it achieved 475 million views across various platforms. The studio described it as the “biggest video launch of all time,” surpassing the previous record held by the Deadpool & Wolverine trailer, which had 365 million views within its first 24 hours.
Additionally, the GTA 6 trailer outperformed the viewing numbers of The Fantastic Four: First Steps trailer, which recorded 200 million views on its opening day, according to THR.
At the time of this report, the second trailer for GTA 6 boasts over 85 million views on YouTube. The cumulative figure of 475 million combines views from other platforms such as X and Instagram.
In comparison, the initial GTA 6 trailer also broke records, becoming YouTube’s biggest launch outside of music content. The first trailer accumulated 93 million views in a similar timeframe but was exclusive to YouTube. Currently, that trailer has surpassed 255 million views on the platform.
THR highlighted that the song featured in the second GTA 6 trailer, “Hot Together” by The Pointer Sisters, experienced an astonishing 182,000 percent surge in streams on Spotify following the trailer’s release. The earlier trailer’s featured song, “Love Is a Long Road” by Tom Petty, also enjoyed a boost in streaming popularity after its debut in December 2023.
The surprise release of the second GTA 6 trailer on May 6 caught fans off guard, as Rockstar did not provide any advance notice. The nearly three-minute trailer offers insights into Jason, one of the game’s two protagonists, and showcases the dynamics of Jason and Lucia’s relationship.
Rockstar noted that the second trailer was captured on the PS5 and included a balanced mix of gameplay footage and cinematic scenes. Originally scheduled for release in Fall 2025, the open-world game has been pushed back to May 26, 2026, when it will launch on PS5 and Xbox Series S/X.
