On Tuesday, Rockstar Games unexpectedly unveiled the second trailer for Grand Theft Auto 6, igniting excitement among fans. This new trailer came 17 months after the first teaser, introducing Jason, the game’s second playable character, and showcasing significant visual enhancements in the upcoming title. Rockstar emphasized that the footage presented in the trailer was captured entirely using in-game graphics on a PS5, featuring a mixture of gameplay elements and cinematic sequences.

Gameplay Insights in GTA 6 Trailer 2

At the conclusion of the GTA 6 trailer 2, Rockstar confirmed that all visuals were indeed recorded on a PlayStation 5. However, the exceptional graphical quality sparked skepticism among some fans, who speculated whether the footage might have been sourced from a more advanced PS5 Pro model.

In a follow-up statement the following day, Rockstar confirmed that all content in the trailer was genuinely captured on a PlayStation 5. While the trailer predominantly featured a combination of cinematic cutscenes, the developers reassured fans that gameplay footage was also included.

“Grand Theft Auto VI Trailer 2 was captured entirely in-game from a PlayStation 5, comprised of equal parts gameplay and cutscenes,” Rockstar stated in a post on X on Wednesday, sharing the trailer once more.

The assurance from Rockstar indicates that GTA 6 is harnessing the capabilities of current-generation consoles to provide stunning graphics. Viewers were particularly impressed by the rich details in character models and environments, reinforcing the notion that the technological advancements behind GTA 6 are impressive, especially given it was all running on a PS5.

Rockstar is well-known for setting high standards in visual quality across its game releases. Grand Theft Auto 5 was acclaimed for its technical prowess upon its debut on the PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2013. Similarly, Red Dead Redemption 2, launched on PS4 and Xbox One in 2018, remains a benchmark for graphical performance on consoles.

With the insights gained from the two trailers and multiple screenshots published by Rockstar, expectations for GTA 6’s visual quality continue to rise. However, the advanced graphics may limit the game to a 30fps frame rate on PS5 and Xbox Series S/X. Rockstar has yet to confirm whether a 60fps performance mode will be available, potentially compromising visual fidelity.

The second trailer for GTA 6 was released on May 6, shortly after Rockstar announced a delay pushing the game’s launch to 2026. The initial launch window was set for 2025, later adjusted by Rockstar parent company Take-Two to Fall 2025. The studio’s recent announcement cited the need for additional time to meet the high-quality expectations of its fans.

“With every game we have released, the goal has always been to try and exceed your expectations, and Grand Theft Auto VI is no exception. We hope you understand that we need this extra time to deliver at the level of quality you expect and deserve,” the company noted in its delay announcement.

In the aftermath of this announcement, Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier reported that many Rockstar employees anticipated a delay due to the extensive work still required to complete the game on the original timeline.

“Too much work, not enough time, and what appears to be a real desire from management to avoid brutal crunch. GTA VI slipping to 2026 has seemed inevitable for months if not longer,” Schreier remarked.

Grand Theft Auto 6 is now scheduled for release on PS5 and Xbox Series S/X on May 26, 2026. Fans can find the title available for wishlisting on the PlayStation Store.
