On Wednesday, xAI unveiled several new features for its AI chatbot, Grok. The enhancements include Grok Vision, a computer vision capability now available on the iOS app, as well as support for multilingual audio and real-time web search functionalities for both iOS and Android users. Currently, iPhone users can access these features at no cost, while Android users must subscribe to the SuperGrok service for access.
Grok Expands Language Support
Ebby Amir, a technical staff member at xAI, shared the updates in a post on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter. The three new features are accessible to iOS users without the need for a subscription. For Android users, a SuperGrok subscription is required, which is priced at Rs. 700 per month or Rs. 6,500 annually.
The standout addition is Grok Vision, exclusive to iOS for now. This feature allows Grok to utilize the device’s camera to process visuals in real-time, similar to offerings like Gemini Live with Video and ChatGPT’s Advanced Voice with Video. Users can direct the camera at various objects and pose questions to the AI about them.
Staff members from Gadgets 360 tested Grok Vision and reported minimal latency when connected to a robust Wi-Fi network. In most trials, Grok successfully identified items such as smartphones, earbuds, and even abstract designs like patterns on clothing.
Moreover, Grok’s language capabilities have expanded to include five new languages in addition to English: French, Hindi, Japanese, Spanish, and Turkish. The chatbot can now comprehend and respond to verbal prompts in these languages, enhancing its multilingual audio support.
The voice mode upgrade also includes real-time web search capabilities. Users can inquire about current news and other information needing a web search, with Grok providing timely responses to these queries.
