Grand Theft Auto 6 has been pushed back from its anticipated Fall 2025 debut to the following year. However, fans of the franchise may find solace in the potential arrival of an updated version of Grand Theft Auto 4. Reports suggest that Rockstar Games is developing a port of GTA 4 for current-generation consoles, with a possible release slated for 2025. Originally launched in 2008 on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC, this beloved title has yet to debut on PS5 and Xbox Series S/X.
Rumors of a GTA 4 Port Surface
A reliable source has indicated that the highly regarded title might be making its way to modern gaming platforms. Details emerged from a tipster, known as Tez2 on GTA forums, who noted that the port is reportedly in development at Rockstar with a tentative release date later this year. This information was shared through Rockstar Games’ news channel on X.
“Someone at R* (Rockstar) hinted at the IV port, and by now it should’ve seen a year in development,” the informant noted in response to queries on the forums. “We may end up seeing it drop later this year, which could explain why the LCPP mod was taken down.”
This refers to Rockstar’s recent decision to shut down the Liberty City Preservation Project mod. This popular modification allowed players to explore the Liberty City map from GTA 4 within Grand Theft Auto 5.
The discontinuation of the Liberty City mod has also spurred theories that Rockstar’s rendition of New York City could make an appearance in GTA 6. The game’s second trailer hinted at connections to Liberty City, showcasing elements such as Lucia, one of the protagonists, who is known to hail from Liberty City, along with Liberty City license plates observed on various vehicles in the trailer.

Possible Max Payne Remakes on the Horizon
Rockstar has yet to confirm any plans regarding remasters or remakes for either Grand Theft Auto or Max Payne franchises. The studio previously released Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition in 2021, which included remastered versions of three classic titles for contemporary gaming platforms.
Since its original release in 2008, Grand Theft Auto 4 has garnered critical acclaim and is often cited as one of the greatest games of all time. Fans have frequently expressed their desire for a remastered edition for current consoles. The game also includes two major expansion packs—The Lost and Damned and The Ballad of Gay Tony—featuring new narratives and protagonists. A remastered edition could combine these expansions with the base game, similar to the Complete Edition available on PC.
