In a recent announcement, Google disclosed plans to extend the capabilities of its Gemini AI system to a variety of devices, including tablets, smartwatches, headphones, and Android-powered in-car infotainment systems. This initiative was detailed by CEO Sundar Pichai during the company’s earnings call for the first quarter of 2025.

Google Plans to Bring Gemini to More Devices in 2025

As outlined in a transcript shared on the company’s blog, Google has embedded Gemini models into all 15 of its platform-based products, currently serving an estimated half a billion users with its advanced AI tools.

A significant component of the initiative is the transition from Google Assistant to Gemini on compatible smartphones. This process commenced last year when Gemini was introduced as the default assistant on select new Android devices, and Google is now aiming to include older models as well.

Moreover, Pichai indicated that later this year, the focus would shift towards integrating Gemini across various other platforms and devices. This includes tablets, smartwatches, headphones, and the Android Automotive operating system (AAOS), which will also adopt Gemini as the primary assistant.

This transition signifies an upcoming retirement of the Google Assistant, although Pichai refrained from providing specifics regarding which devices would receive the upgrade or the expected timeline for the rollout.

Pichai further noted that the Gemini Live with Camera and Screen Sharing feature is now expanding to all Android devices, having previously been limited to certain Pixel phones and the Samsung Galaxy S25 series. The rollout of these features, which require a Gemini Advanced subscription, has also recently been announced.

During the earnings call, attention was drawn to the company’s expanding AI infrastructure. Google has recently launched the beta versions of its Gemini 2.5 Pro and Gemini 2.5 Flash models, with stable releases anticipated in the near future. Additionally, Pichai mentioned ongoing efforts to develop Gemini Robotics models.
