Google is set to enhance its Gemini application with new personalisation features aimed at providing a more immersive user experience. An executive from the company announced that plans are in motion to upgrade the chatbot with improved memory functions and the capacity to access information from users’ Google accounts. Additionally, the AI application may include new agentic capabilities akin to those found in the Deep Research tool. These enhancements are expected to be showcased at the upcoming Google I/O 2025.
Gemini’s Personalised Context Upgrade Slated for Google I/O 2025
In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, Josh Woodward, Vice President of Google Labs and Gemini, outlined a series of new features for the Gemini app that will be introduced during the forthcoming Google I/O. He emphasized that these updates align with Google’s strategy to create a “personal, proactive, and powerful” user experience.
To enhance user engagement, the upgraded Gemini will have the ability to retain memories of previous conversations, eliminating the need for users to repeat prompts or information at the start of each session. This feature follows a similar introduction by OpenAI for its ChatGPT tool.
Going beyond merely remembering past interactions, the tech giant plans for Gemini to utilize information from other Google applications, such as Gmail, Photos, Calendar, and YouTube, all linked through the user’s Google account, but only with the user’s consent. This functionality is being referred to internally as “pcontext,” short for personalised context.
With this context, Gemini will be positioned to offer recommendations and insights proactively, without requiring users to initiate queries. Woodward noted that these advancements would make the AI chatbot significantly more responsive. Furthermore, he suggested that the app may also feature enhanced agentic capabilities that facilitate the transformation of ideas into actions.
In addition, a recent report from TestingCatalog indicates that Google may introduce a new subscription model for the chatbot, named Gemini Ultra. Evidence for this potential offering was uncovered in the code strings of the Gemini web version.
The Gemini Ultra tier is believed to provide higher consumption limits alongside advanced features like code and image generation, and is also expected to incorporate the agentic functionalities of Gemini. If these details hold true, an unveiling of this subscription plan could occur during the upcoming event.
