Google has introduced a new experimental tool called Mixboard, designed to assist users in generating moodboards for design exploration. This initiative, part of Google Labs, allows individuals to craft projects using either pre-designed templates or custom text prompts, powered by Google’s Gemini 2.5 Flash model.
Currently, Mixboard is accessible through a public beta in the United States. Its interface closely resembles that of other collaborative design platforms such as FigJam and Adobe’s Firefly Boards. This suggests that while the concept may not be entirely new, it reflects Google’s ongoing efforts to expand into creative application spaces.
Users can personalize their boards by uploading images or generating new visuals with phrases such as “show me cups, bowls, and plates in Memphis style” or “plan an autumn party in my living room.” This flexibility allows for creative exploration in home decor, event planning, or simply compiling entertaining imagery reminiscent of Pinterest functionality. Google emphasizes the capability to modify boards through natural language prompts, enabling users to combine images or reference uploads to create new compositions. Additionally, one-click features facilitate quick image regeneration or the creation of designs that resemble existing visuals.
