During Google I/O 2025, CEO Sundar Pichai unveiled new features for the Gemini app, introducing an “Agent Mode” and updates to its Project Mariner tool.

Pichai indicated that Project Mariner, a sophisticated AI agent designed to conduct web searches, is now capable of managing up to 10 simultaneous tasks.

Additionally, he introduced a new feature named “Teach and Repeat,” which allows users to demonstrate a task once, enabling the AI to learn and apply the same approach for similar tasks in the future. Project Mariner is set for a broader release this summer.

In the Gemini app’s Agent Mode, users can assign tasks to the AI agent, which will autonomously execute them. Pichai provided an illustration of individuals searching for an apartment in Austin, Texas, stating that the agent could source listings from platforms such as Zillow and utilize Project Mariner to fine-tune specific criteria.

An “experimental” version of Agent Mode is expected to be available soon for subscribers, Pichai confirmed.
