On Wednesday, Google announced the availability of its Gemini Live features, including Camera and Screen Share functionalities, to all Android devices that support the Gemini app. This follows the previous week’s launch for the Google Pixel 9 and Samsung Galaxy S25 series. However, users will need a Gemini Advanced subscription to utilize these new capabilities.

Google Expands Gemini Live Features

The official Google Gemini App account shared the update via a post on X, formerly Twitter. The company noted that feedback for the Gemini Live with Camera and Screen Share features has been overwhelmingly positive, prompting its expansion to a broader range of compatible Android devices.

These Live Video and screen sharing capabilities were first introduced at the previous year’s Google I/O event. Nearly a year later, they were previewed again at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2025. Developed by Google DeepMind as part of Project Astra, these features enable the AI chatbot to provide real-time support using the user’s device camera feed or screen recordings.

With Gemini Live using Camera, users can interact with the chatbot while it accesses their camera. For example, if a user points their camera at a tree and asks what it is, the AI can quickly identify it. This capability offers minimal time lag in responses.

On the other hand, the Screen Share feature allows the AI to assist users by accessing their screens. Users can request help with tasks such as editing images. The AI can guide the user through an installed photo editing application and assist them in sharing the edited image via WhatsApp or other social media platforms.

Currently, these Gemini features are exclusively available to Gemini Advanced subscribers. Google has not indicated a timeline for when they might be accessible to users on the free tier. The Gemini Advanced plan is incorporated into the Google One AI Premium subscription, which is priced at Rs. 1,950 per month.
