Gemini Advanced, the artificial intelligence service included in the Google One AI Premium plan, will be available for free for a year to college students in the United States. This initiative allows students to access Gemini Advanced for 15 months, positioning Google to compete with OpenAI’s recent announcement of two months of free ChatGPT Plus for US students. In addition to the AI service, users will receive 2TB of storage for Google products linked to their personal accounts, along with various features of Gemini AI.

Promotion Exclusively for US College Students

As outlined on a microsite dedicated to the promotion, students enrolled at colleges within the United States can claim complimentary access to Gemini Advanced until June 30. The offer is aimed strictly at those who meet eligibility criteria based on their college affiliation.

Students who already hold a subscription to Google One AI Premium will need to terminate their subscription and can then take advantage of this offer following the conclusion of their current billing cycle. Currently, Google charges US customers approximately $20 per month for a Google One AI Premium subscription.

To take advantage of the free Google One AI Premium promotion, students must possess an email address ending with ‘.edu’. These emails, issued by U.S. colleges, will be used by Google to verify eligibility for the promotion.

Students who successfully claim the offer will gain access to several advanced features, including Gemini Advanced (featuring Gemini 2.5 Pro), Notebook LM Plus for research, Whisk for image and animation generation, and Veo 2 for video creation. Additionally, they will have access to Gemini features integrated across Google Workspace applications.

These benefits, along with the 2TB of cloud storage, will be activated on the user’s personal Google account once they sign up and validate their eligibility using their college-issued email. The tools will remain accessible until “spring 2026,” according to Google’s guidelines.

In contrast, OpenAI has recently extended an offer for students in the U.S. and Canada to sign up for two months of free ChatGPT Plus. While Google’s offer provides a more extended access period, it is exclusively available to students located in the United States.
