Google is set to intensify its advertising presence within its AI search results. On May 21st, the tech giant revealed plans to experiment with ads in its recently launched AI Mode, which is designed to enhance the search experience by providing AI-powered responses.

AI Mode introduces a new interface in Google Search resembling a chatbot, where users can obtain concise summaries of their search queries along with links to pertinent websites. This feature will soon incorporate product recommendations and advertisements.

For example, if a user inquires about website building tips, AI Mode will display a step-by-step guide alongside potential advertisements for website creation tools, clearly marked as “sponsored.” This advertising feature will be tested on both desktop and mobile platforms.

Additionally, Google plans to extend its ad placements in AI Overviews—AI-powered summaries shown at the top of select search results—from mobile devices to desktop computers. Users seeking information about traveling with small dogs, for instance, may encounter sponsored links to pet carriers beneath the AI Overview.

Starting today, ads in AI Overviews will be accessible to all users in the United States, with plans for Google to introduce these ads to English-language AI Overviews in select international markets later this year.
