Sony is poised to commemorate the 20th anniversary of its iconic franchise, God of War, on March 22. In celebration, the company has unveiled a host of new in-game content for God of War Ragnarök, alongside exclusive merchandise, an art exhibition, and other festivities to mark this milestone.
Update for God of War Ragnarök
A free update, the Dark Odyssey Collection, will be available for God of War Ragnarök on PS5 and PC starting March 20, as announced on the PlayStation Blog. This collection features the striking black and gold skin for Kratos, reminiscent of God of War 2. Players can look forward to the addition of a Dark Odyssey armour set, which includes a breastplate, bracers, and a belt.
The collection will also enrich the gameplay for companion characters Atreus and Freya with Dark Odyssey-themed armour. In addition to the character enhancements, players will benefit from redesigned weapon appearances for the Leviathan Axe, the Blades of Chaos, and the Draupnir Spear, along with various attachments.
Additionally, Kratos will receive new shield appearances, including a Dark Odyssey-themed Rond attachment. Players will also gain the capability to customize the appearance of weapon and shield accessories.
In conjunction with the upcoming update, Sony has already launched a 20th anniversary fan kit featuring banners, icons, and wallpapers for both desktop and mobile. On March 20, anniversary-themed items will also be introduced to the Steam Points Shop, catering to PC players, while PS5 users will receive a free 20th anniversary-themed PlayStation Network Avatar.
Furthermore, a 20th anniversary art exhibition is planned in Los Angeles, along with a range of new merchandise, a two-volume retrospective book that chronicles the franchise’s history, art prints, and a limited edition vinyl set.
For PS Plus Extra and Deluxe/Premium tier members, both God of War (2018) and God of War Ragnarök will be available on the Game Catalog, while Premium subscribers can access God of War III Remastered through the Classics Catalog.
Lastly, PC gamers can take advantage of sales on God of War and its sequel, God of War Ragnarök, available on both Steam and the Epic Games Store until March 20.
