Glance AI, a division of mobile advertising firm InMobi, has announced a collaboration with the Samsung Galaxy Store to introduce its e-commerce platform to Galaxy smartphones in the United States. The platform is described as “a Generative AI shopping platform,” a term that has generated some skepticism regarding its implications. This new offering includes both a standalone app and a lock screen feature designed to promote clothing sales. Notably, participation in this service is entirely optional, which is a reassuring aspect for users. However, even for those who choose not to engage with it, this development may indicate a shift towards greater use of AI in advertising.
InMobi is also known for incorporating extensive e-commerce capabilities into Motorola’s budget devices, leading to mixed consumer responses. The Galaxy implementation appears to feature a tool that leverages generative AI and user photos to create virtual outfits for individuals, providing new styles daily. Users can conveniently purchase these outfits with a simple tap. This interaction can occur directly from the lock screen, and interestingly, users have the option to save these AI-generated outfits as wallpapers for their lock screens.
The features of Glance AI’s lock screen differ by geographical location. In India, Glance lock screens typically showcase advertisements alongside news updates and sports scores. Fortunately, the version for Samsung devices does not currently include ads. Users express concern over the idea of ads appearing on their lock screens, with some pledging to discard their phones should this happen.
The rollout of Glance AI begins today for Samsung Galaxy S22, S23, S24, and S25 series phones, with full implementation expected over the next 30 days. Users can anticipate that it will be available as an optional download through the Galaxy Store, though there may be encouraging notifications nudging users to install the application.
