Historically, the Galaxy S Plus models experienced a decline in popularity due to the introduction of the Note series, which has now transformed into the Ultra lineup. The Galaxy Note series concluded with the Galaxy S22 Ultra in 2022, marking the first Ultra model to feature the S Pen. Fast-forward to the present, and it appears that the Galaxy S Plus model is at risk of facing a similar decline with the impending arrival of a new variant within the S family, dubbed the Galaxy Edge. Reports suggest that Samsung may choose not to release a Galaxy S26+ as part of the upcoming S26 lineup, slated for debut in early 2026. Instead, it is anticipated that the new Edge smartphone will take the place of the Plus variant.

According to Sammy Police, only three models have been identified for the forthcoming Samsung Galaxy S26 series. The listing in the GSMA database, which catalogs smartphones ahead of their official announcements, includes the standard Galaxy S26 (SM-S942), the Galaxy S26 Edge (SM-S947), and the Galaxy S26 Ultra (SM-S948).

While the Galaxy S26+ (potentially designated as SM-S946) may be included later, the likelihood of this happening appears diminished. Samsung typically lists all upcoming models in the database well in advance, prompting speculation that if the S26+ does not appear within the next two weeks, cancellation may be imminent.

In our analysis of the Galaxy S25 Edge, we noted that the Galaxy S25 Plus seems to render the Edge variant unnecessary in markets like India. We even proposed that Samsung should consider merging the two models into a single Edge variant to streamline its future offerings. Such a move could suggest that Samsung aims to enhance the next-generation Edge model, adding features that may solidify its market position. Given that the Edge model currently has limitations, incorporating advanced features could potentially render the Galaxy S26+ unnecessary and bolster the sales performance of the Galaxy S26 Edge.

While we advise caution regarding these developments, if the reports hold true, the Galaxy S25 series might mark the final appearance of a Plus-sized model in Samsung’s S series. The Plus segment initially debuted with the Galaxy S8+ in 2017, evolving from the larger-screened Galaxy S7 Edge released in 2016. The Galaxy S7 Edge was notably a larger iteration of the compact Galaxy S7, which featured a flat display, while the S7 Edge introduced an aggressively curved dual-edge display later branded as the Infinity display with the Galaxy S8 series.
