Ubisoft’s Far Cry 4, a popular open-world first-person shooter, has been enhanced with a new update nearly a decade after its initial launch. This latest patch improves the game’s performance on contemporary consoles, allowing for 60 frames per second (fps) gameplay on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S/X. The game, originally developed by Ubisoft Montreal, was released in 2014 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox 360, and Xbox Series consoles.
60 FPS Patch for Far Cry 4 Now Available
The newly released Patch 1.08 is available at no additional cost, enabling 60fps performance for players on current-generation consoles. The update was first reported by PS5 users on social media before Ubisoft officially announced it on Tuesday.
In a blog post, Ubisoft confirmed, “Far Cry 4 will now run at 60 frames per second on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PS5 Pro, thanks to a free update deployed today. Whether you’re wingsuiting out of a gyrocopter for an aerial incursion or wielding a rocket launcher atop an elephant as you charge into battle, the beautiful scenery and unbridled chaos have never been so inviting on console.”

The update allows players on PS5 and Xbox Series S/X to fully immerse themselves in the game’s Himalayan landscape with enhanced gameplay fluidity. Previously, the game was limited to 30fps performance on newer consoles. This update coincides with Far Cry 4’s addition to Xbox Game Pass, making it available on Microsoft’s subscription service starting April 30.

Additionally, Ubisoft has announced promotional pricing for Far Cry 4 across various platforms. Significant discounts will be offered on the PlayStation Store from April 23 to May 7, on Xbox from April 20 to May 5, and via the Ubisoft Store from April 29 to May 20.
Currently, the game on PlayStation Store is priced at Rs. 299, reflecting an 85 percent discount from its original retail price of Rs. 1,999. Furthermore, PS Plus Extra and Premium members can access the game at no charge as part of the Game Catalog.
This is not the first instance of Ubisoft enhancing an older title for modern consoles. Last November, the company released a free 60fps update for Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, following similar patches for Assassin’s Creed Origins and Odyssey. Earlier in 2023, a 60fps patch was also made available for Far Cry 5 on PS5 and Xbox Series S/X.
Set in the fictional Himalayan region of Kyrat—drawing inspiration from Nepal and Bhutan—Far Cry 4 follows the journey of Ajay Ghale, who returns to his homeland amidst a brutal civil war to confront the tyrannical rule of dictator Pagan Min.
