Fairphone 6 Launches: Eco-Friendly, Repairable Smartphone

The Fairphone 6 has officially been launched in select markets around the world. This latest device from the Dutch manufacturer focuses on repairability and includes a variety of accessories, such as a card holder, lanyard, and a finger loop that attaches to the back panel. Featuring a 6.3-inch OLED display, the Fairphone 6 is powered by a Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 processor. The new model comes pre-installed with Android 15 and is guaranteed eight years of software support. Environmentally conscious, it is reported to be constructed from recycled materials and carries an IP55 rating for durability. The smartphone is also equipped with a user-replaceable 4,415mAh battery.

Pricing and Availability

The starting price of the Fairphone 6 is EUR 599 (approximately Rs. 59,000). Currently, it is available for purchase in the UK in three color variants: Cloud White, Forest Green, and Horizon Black.

The model featuring the privacy-focused /e/OS, which offers a deGoogled version of Android, is priced at EUR 649 (around Rs. 65,000).

Specifications and Features

The dual-SIM Fairphone 6 operates on Android 15, with a commitment to software updates lasting until 2033. It is equipped with the company’s Fairphone Moments software and features a 6.31-inch full-HD (1,116×2,484 pixels) LTPO pOLED display, offering a pixel density of 431ppi, a refresh rate of up to 120Hz, and peak brightness of 1400 nits. The display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 7i.

Under the hood, the Fairphone 6 utilizes a Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 chipset, coupled with 8GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage, which can be expanded by up to 2TB via a microSD card.

Photography capabilities include a 50-megapixel Sony Lytia 700C primary rear camera, which supports up to 10x digital zoom and optical image stabilization. Additionally, the rear camera setup features a 13-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens, while a 32-megapixel front camera is available for selfies and video calls.

In terms of connectivity, the Fairphone 6 supports Wi-Fi 6E, NFC, Bluetooth 5.4, GPS/A-GPS, Beidou, Galileo, and GLONASS, along with a USB Type-C port. It is also equipped with several onboard sensors, including a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, accelerometer, barometer, e-compass, gyroscope, light sensor, and proximity sensor. The device incorporates facial recognition technology and meets military-grade durability standards (MIL-810H), in addition to its IP55 rating for dust and splash resistance.

The Fairphone 6 is powered by a 4,415mAh removable lithium-ion battery, supporting 30W wired charging. According to the company, the battery offers more than 12 hours of web browsing on a single charge.

Consumers can benefit from a five-year warranty with their purchase of the Fairphone 6. Continuing the brand’s legacy, this device promotes easy repairability, allowing users to access and swap out 12 different components.

Constructed using fair and recycled materials, the Fairphone 6 includes 14 recycled or fairly mined materials throughout its construction. Additionally, it comes with a range of swappable accessories, including various cases, a screen protector, finger loop, card holder, and lanyard. The company claims that the device is entirely e-waste neutral.
