Elden Ring, the popular fantasy role-playing game created by FromSoftware, has achieved a remarkable sales milestone, surpassing 23 million copies since its launch in 2022, as reported by Bandai Namco. This announcement coincided with the unveiling of a gameplay trailer and the release date for the first major expansion, Shadow of the Erdtree, which is set to debut on June 21.
Bandai Namco noted that the reported sales figures include both physical copies and digital downloads across multiple platforms, including Steam for PC users. This milestone positions Elden Ring as FromSoftware’s top-selling game, easily outpacing Dark Souls 3, which sold over 10 million copies as confirmed by the studio in 2020. Elden Ring continues to close in on the cumulative sales of the entire Dark Souls franchise, which has shipped over 27 million copies.
With the impending release of Shadow of the Erdtree, it is anticipated that the sales numbers for Elden Ring will continue to rise. The newly released three-minute gameplay trailer highlighted fresh environments, new adversaries, and bosses, providing fans with intriguing clues about the upcoming expansion.
The Shadow of the Erdtree expansion requires the base game to play and will also be available as a bundled offering that includes both Elden Ring and the expansion. Meanwhile, the game’s popularity endures on Steam, where it maintains an average concurrent player count of approximately 50,000 at the time of this report.
Earlier in February 2023, Bandai Namco reported that Elden Ring had sold 20 million copies within its first year on the market. In their announcement, the publisher expressed gratitude to players for their support and emphasized their commitment to exploring new ways for fans to experience the world of Elden Ring. Released on February 25, 2022, for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S/X, Elden Ring went on to secure the Game of the Year award at The Game Awards 2022.
