FromSoftware has announced that Elden Ring Nightreign, its new standalone multiplayer survival game, achieved a remarkable milestone by selling two million copies on its launch day. Despite this success, players have raised concerns regarding matchmaking difficulties and other technical issues. The developer is aware of these problems and has proposed several solutions to enhance the matchmaking experience. Additionally, a patch is in the works aimed at addressing bugs and improving solo gameplay.
Elden Ring Nightreign Sees Two Million Sales
In a post shared on X, the developer expressed gratitude toward the gaming community and confirmed the impressive sales figure. “Darkness fell over Limveld, and two million Nightfarers rose up against it. Thank you for your support,” the official Elden Ring account stated.
Steam has also shown a strong response to the game, with over 313,000 players concurrently logging in, making Elden Ring Nightreign one of the most popular titles on the platform since its debut.
Technical Challenges in Elden Ring Nightreign
However, the launch has not been entirely smooth, as players have reported various bugs and matchmaking frustrations. FromSoftware is preparing a patch this week, designated as version 1.02, which aims to enhance solo play and resolve technical glitches. Notable changes include adding an “Automatic Revival Upon Defeat” feature for boss encounters, allowing players to revive once after being defeated during night battles, and boosting the rune rewards in solo sessions.
To assist with the matchmaking issues, FromSoftware offered a series of recommendations via X. Players are encouraged to restart the matchmaking process, while those on PS4 and PS5 should verify their network’s NAT type. The studio noted that NAT Type 3 may hinder matchmaking on the PlayStation Network.
PlayStation users can check their NAT type by navigating to Home > Settings > Network > Connection Status > Check Connection Status.
Prior to the game’s launch, FromSoftware hinted at potentially adding a two-player mode in a future update. Game director Junya Ishizaki mentioned that a two-player mode was “overlooked” during development, as the focus was primarily on refining gameplay for three-player co-op and solo experiences.
Interestingly, a two-player mode has already been introduced through a PC mod. As reported by Gamespot, a mod created by Luke Yui was available within 24 hours of the game’s launch, enabling players to enjoy cooperative play in pairs.
Elden Ring Nightreign was released on May 30 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S/X. The game serves as a standalone spin-off of the Elden Ring franchise with an emphasis on cooperative gameplay. Players can explore the game solo or in teams of three, facing a variety of bosses and environmental challenges in a dynamic shrinking map. The objective is to survive through three nights and ultimately defeat the final boss.
