Five years after its debut on the PlayStation 4, Hideo Kojima’s acclaimed post-apocalyptic action game, Death Stranding, has finally made its way to Xbox. The Director’s Cut version of the game was launched on Xbox Series S and X on Thursday, bringing with it new gameplay features and missions that were first introduced in the PS5 release in 2021, followed by versions for PC and mobile platforms.

On Thursday, Kojima Productions confirmed the launch of the game on Xbox Series S and X. The timing of this release appears to coincide with the conclusion of the five-year exclusivity agreement with PlayStation, which is believed to have ended on November 7. The studio took to X to encourage the Xbox community to enjoy the new addition.

“Death Stranding debuted on PlayStation 4 on November 8, 2019, and today we celebrate its fifth anniversary, connecting with over 19 million players globally,” said Kojima Productions in an official announcement. “With the release of DEATH STRANDING DIRECTOR’S CUT on Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC, and Luna, we look forward to expanding the Death Stranding franchise across various forms of entertainment and connecting with an even larger player base.”

The Death Stranding Director’s Cut is currently available on Xbox and PC with a promotional 50 percent discount for a limited time.

The game’s Xbox listing highlights features including cloud saves, Xbox Achievements, and the Xbox Play Anywhere option. Additionally, the Director’s Cut incorporates a high framerate mode, photo mode, and support for ultra-wide monitors.

Kojima Productions also announced that the game launched on Amazon Luna on the same day, allowing access through an Amazon Luna+ subscription.

Originally published by 505 Games, Death Stranding Director’s Cut hit the PS5 in 2021 and was later released for PC a year after. Earlier this year, the title also became available on iPhone 15 Pro, as well as iPad and MacBook models that use Apple silicon.

The studio is currently developing the sequel, titled Death Stranding 2: On The Beach, which was announced at The Game Awards in 2022. Scheduled for release in 2025, the sequel has been confirmed for PS5, although there has been no official announcement regarding its availability on PC or Xbox. It will feature returning characters from the original game, including Norman Reedus, Léa Seydoux, and Troy Baker.
