Anthropic is set to enhance its AI chatbot, Claude, with a new agentic capability known as Research. This feature, which was unveiled last week, enables Claude to conduct extensive web searches on various subjects, allowing it to gather detailed information and examine different perspectives on specific questions. This functionality is comparable to the Deep Research feature found in Gemini and ChatGPT. Additionally, Anthropic is integrating Google Workspace into Claude, facilitating the chatbot’s access to users’ work data.
Claude Can Now Research Queries
The announcement regarding these new capabilities was made in a newsroom post last week. Currently, the Research feature in Claude is available in beta for Max, Team, and Enterprise subscribers located in Brazil, Japan, and the United States. Users can activate the tool by enabling the Research setting within the chat interface. The integration with Google Workspace is now accessible to all paid users via their profile settings.

The Research feature in Claude is designed as an agentic tool, capable of connecting to the Internet alongside Google Docs, Gmail, and Calendar through its Google Workspace integration. When users enter a query after enabling the Research button, the AI conducts multiple web searches to gather information on the topic, including related subjects. If permitted by the user, Claude also accesses their Google Workspace data to uncover relevant insights.
After compiling the information, Claude can autonomously draft emails in Gmail, save documents in Google Docs, or create calendar events, with users needing only to verify the information before finalizing or sending any communications.
Importantly, responses generated using the Research feature will include citations to indicate the sources of the information. Anthropic asserts that the AI agent will be able to provide thorough answers within minutes, striking a balance between speed and quality.
While the Google Workspace integration is open to all paid subscribers of Claude, administrators within Team and Enterprise plans must first enable access on a domain-wide basis before individual users can link their accounts.
