On Thursday, OpenAI rolled out its latest GPT-5 artificial intelligence model across all ChatGPT platforms, including the website, desktop, and mobile applications. In addition to this widespread launch, the company is also making the new models accessible through application programming interfaces (API). However, ChatGPT is not limited to these platforms, as it has been integrated into Apple Intelligence, enhancing various features within Apple’s suite of AI offerings. Reports indicate that support for GPT-5 will soon extend to Apple Intelligence applications.
Support for GPT-5 Coming to Apple Intelligence Next Month
The integration of ChatGPT into Apple Intelligence commenced with the launch of iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia, before expanding to visionOS 2. Initially, this integration was powered by the GPT-4o AI model. According to a report from 9to5Mac, Apple plans to incorporate GPT-5 support in the upcoming iOS 26, iPadOS 26, and macOS Tahoe 26 updates. However, the report did not clarify whether the ChatGPT functionality in visionOS 26 will also receive an upgrade to the latest model next month.
When Apple introduced its AI suite, the ChatGPT integration was designed to enhance Siri’s capabilities, allowing the voice assistant to tackle complex queries that require advanced reasoning. Additionally, users could utilize the chatbot for tasks related to documents and photos. Furthermore, ChatGPT has been instrumental in Apple’s Writing Tools, facilitating text composition, rewriting, summarization, and image generation.
Subsequently, with the launch of the Visual Intelligence feature alongside the iPhone 16 series, ChatGPT’s computer vision capabilities were harnessed to respond to user inquiries about their environments. Users were always informed and required to give explicit consent for these functionalities, with notifications indicating that their queries were being processed by OpenAI’s AI.
