OpenAI has introduced new features for ChatGPT, including a “record mode” designed to aid users in note-taking during meetings, brainstorming sessions, or personal reflections. This announcement was made on Wednesday, highlighting significant enhancements to the platform.

In addition to the note-taking capability, ChatGPT can now integrate with major file storage services such as Google Drive, Dropbox, Box, SharePoint, and OneDrive. This allows users to query stored files and documents, making it possible to ask questions like “What was my company’s revenue in Q1 last year?” or “How many times did I take the ferry during my trip to Italy last year?”

According to OpenAI, the platform will organize and present the data accessibly, maintaining compliance with existing user permissions tied to the organization’s policies, and will include citations for the information provided.

Currently, the recording feature is exclusive to subscribers of ChatGPT Team, a plan priced at $25 per user per month, available under an annual commitment for teams of two or more. The recordings generated will feature timestamped citations and actionable items for users to reference later.

Connectivity to third-party storage options is available to users of ChatGPT Team, Enterprise, as well as the educational-focused ChatGPT Edu offering from OpenAI.

These newly unveiled functionalities align with OpenAI’s strategy to capture enterprise AI clients, who tend to be high-value customers. Following the launch of ChatGPT Enterprise in 2023—as little as a year following the original ChatGPT release—the company has already secured contracts with notable firms such as Block, Canva, The Estée Lauder Companies, and PwC. In January 2024, it introduced ChatGPT Team, tailored for smaller organizations.

Recently, OpenAI reported that it has reached 3 million paying business users, an increase from 2 million earlier this year in February.

The company is actively competing with a range of technology giants and startups in pursuit of lucrative enterprise AI clients. Competitors such as Google, Microsoft, Amazon, and Anthropic are also engaging in this competitive landscape, which is marked by a rush to deploy generative AI features. Industry analysts suggest that this sector could exceed $1 trillion in revenue within the next seven years.
