OpenAI has introduced a new library feature for ChatGPT, enabling users to view all their AI-generated images in one consolidated location. This update, announced on Wednesday, is accessible to all registered users across various platforms, including web, desktop, and mobile applications. The San Francisco-based AI company stated that this library will facilitate easier browsing, revisiting, and reusing of images without having to navigate through previous conversations. Additionally, users will have the ability to edit their generated images directly within the library.

ChatGPT Is Getting an Image Library

This user-friendly enhancement was revealed by OpenAI through a post on X, formerly known as Twitter. The company confirmed that the feature will be available to ChatGPT Plus and Pro subscribers, as well as those using the free version of the platform.

Users can access the library by clicking on the Library section located in the left-hand sidebar of both web and mobile platforms. It is important to note that the library will only display images generated through the enhanced image generation capabilities of GPT-4o, excluding legacy images created with the DALL-E model, according to a support page on the OpenAI website.

At the bottom of the library, users will find a “Make Image” button, which allows them to quickly access the chat interface for generating new images. By pressing and holding an image in the library, users can enlarge the image and view it in a new window. Four new options will be presented at the bottom: Edit, Select, Save, and Share.

The Save option enables users to download the image to their device, while the Share option facilitates sharing via third-party social media applications. Selecting the Edit option opens the image in a new chat window where the image is attached to the text box, allowing users to input a text prompt for larger edits or to use it as a reference for creating new images.

The Select tool empowers users to make precise inline edits to an image, with the ability to highlight specific parts. A slider on the left-hand side can adjust the size of the selection tool, and undo and redo buttons provide additional editing control. There is also a Copy option available for transferring the image to the device’s clipboard.

It is worth noting that individual images cannot be deleted from the library at this time. To remove an image from the library, users must delete the entire conversation associated with that image. On the web interface, this can be done by hovering over the conversation title in the sidebar, clicking on the three-dot menu, and selecting Delete. On mobile, users can press and hold the conversation title to access the Delete option in a pop-up menu.
