OpenAI announced on Friday that it will be providing free access to ChatGPT Plus for a limited number of users over the next few weeks. Normally priced at $20 per month in the U.S. (approximately Rs. 1,700), selected individuals will not be required to pay for this subscription tier, which includes advanced research capabilities, various reasoning models, and limited access to Sora video generation.

To take advantage of this student offer, individuals must be enrolled in a degree-granting institution within the U.S. or Canada. OpenAI requires students to verify their academic status using SheerID’s secure verification system in order to access the free ChatGPT Plus subscription. Current subscribers will receive an additional two months of service at no extra cost.
Features and Benefits of ChatGPT Plus Subscription
The free version of ChatGPT provides access to the ChatGPT-4o mini model, along with limited access to GPT-4o and o3-mini models. In contrast, the Plus subscription offers deeper research capabilities and access to multiple reasoning models, including o1, o3-mini, and o3-mini-high. Subscribers can also preview the GPT-4.5 model, which was announced in February.
ChatGPT Plus users enjoy benefits such as the ability to upload a greater number of files, send more messages, and generate a higher volume of images compared to those using the free tier. Furthermore, subscribers have access to an advanced voice mode featuring support for video and screen sharing.
Additionally, OpenAI enables ChatGPT Plus subscribers to create custom GPTs and test new features on the platform. The subscription also provides limited access to the Sora video generation tool, which is unavailable to free users.
