Activision has temporarily removed Call of Duty: WWII from the Xbox PC app in response to reports of a significant security flaw. Players have expressed concerns about a potential exploit in the PC version of the game that could allow unauthorized access to their computers. While the company has not specifically addressed the vulnerability, it has confirmed that it is looking into the “issue.” This security concern became apparent after the game was made available on Xbox Game Pass in June.

It appears that malicious users have discovered an exploit that enables them to gain remote control over a player’s PC through Remote Code Execution (RCE). This access could be used to install malware or access personal data stored on the device.
In one instance, a player shared gameplay footage from the Xbox PC version of Call of Duty: WWII, claiming they experienced a hack while playing. The video depicted command prompts and notepad windows indicating that the player had been “RCEd.”
Although Activision has taken the game’s servers offline, Call of Duty: WWII remains listed on the Xbox app for PC. The company has yet to provide further updates regarding the security situation since first acknowledging it on Saturday.
The game became part of Xbox Game Pass on June 30 and is accessible through Game Pass Ultimate, PC Game Pass, and Game Pass Standard on PC and Xbox consoles. Originally released in 2017 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, this World War II-themed shooter is the fourth main entry in the Call of Duty series to join the subscription platform. Other titles in the franchise available on Game Pass include Black Ops 6 and Modern Warfare 2 and 3, with Black Ops 6 being the first entry to launch on the service from day one.
In related news, Activision is preparing to unveil the upcoming installment in the franchise this summer. Black Ops 7 was officially announced at the Xbox Games Showcase last month and is scheduled for release later this year across platforms including PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S/X. It will also be available on Game Pass at launch.
