Bungie is set to unveil gameplay for its highly anticipated shooter, Marathon, later this week. The gameplay showcase is scheduled for April 12, and alongside the announcement, the studio released a short teaser displaying environments from one of the game’s maps. As a PvP extraction shooter, Marathon was announced in 2023; however, this showcase marks the first time the studio will be revealing gameplay footage. Previously, Bungie shared new screenshots providing a glimpse into the title’s development.
Marathon Gameplay Reveal
The Marathon gameplay reveal will take place on April 12 at 10am PT (10:30pm IST). The official Marathon account on X shared a teaser that features environments and a character from the game, generating excitement among fans.
In addition, Joseph Cross, the art director of Marathon, showcased new screenshots on X that highlight more characters and the unique art style of the online shooter. These images offer a deeper understanding of the game’s aesthetic appeal.
Bungie began teasing Marathon on its social media channels starting April 3, following a hiatus since the last update from game director Joe Ziegler. In an October 2024 video update, Ziegler indicated that the game’s development was progressing well, although the team was not prepared to show gameplay at that time.
Extensive player testing and feedback have played a crucial role in Marathon’s development, resulting in significant changes to the game. “For the past couple of years, we’ve been doing a lot of aggressive change to the game, and we’ve been iterating pretty heavily. And during that time, we’ve been testing with a lot of players,” Ziegler mentioned in the last update.
Back in October, Bungie also shared two pieces of concept art from Marathon. One image depicted a “Runner” character, codenamed “Thief,” while the other introduced another character, codenamed “Stealth,” who emphasizes stealth gameplay.
This iteration of Marathon represents a reboot of the 1994 shooter of the same name created by Bungie. While a release window for the reboot has yet to be disclosed, further details are expected during the upcoming gameplay showcase.
