Asus is poised to release its next generation handheld gaming console, the ROG Ally 2, in the near future, with details about the design and specifications now emerging. A recent leak from a US regulatory website has disclosed information that both the Asus ROG Ally 2 and an Xbox-branded handheld, referred to as ‘Project Kennan’, will feature 7-inch displays with a 120Hz refresh rate and will be powered by AMD processors. The leaked images suggest a redesign that closely resembles a gaming controller.
Two Variants of the Asus ROG Ally 2 Are in Development
A listing from Indonesia’s SDPPI certification site suggests that Asus is developing two different models of the ROG Ally 2, available in black (designated RC73X1) and white (designated RC73YA). These model numbers have also appeared on the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) website.

Images of the Asus ROG Ally 2 were obtained by VideoCardz from FCC reports. The black model features a dedicated Xbox button, while the white counterpart includes a button in the same location without the Xbox branding. The exact purpose of the Xbox button in the black version remains uncertain, although recent reports have indicated that Microsoft is enhancing the Windows handheld experience with Xbox elements. It is noted that many handheld gaming consoles utilize Windows, which is not optimized for smaller screens, unlike Valve’s SteamOS.
According to reports, the black variant of the ROG Ally 2 will be powered by an octa-core AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme (36W) processor and will include 64GB of LPDDR5x-8533 RAM. In contrast, the white model is expected to feature a less powerful AMD Aeirth Plus (20W) processor, with no specifications regarding its RAM capacity yet disclosed.
Both handheld models are set to have a 7-inch display with a 120Hz refresh rate. The leaked images provide a glimpse of both models’ screens in an off state, leaving the software interface currently unknown. Previous leaks suggest that the Project Kennan device aims to integrate Windows and Xbox user experiences.
Last month, Asus hinted at the upcoming ROG Ally console, showcasing several hardware improvements without formally confirming whether it would be associated with Xbox. The official Xbox account even responded to Asus’s announcement on X (formerly Twitter) with a meme, fueling speculation around the potential for an Xbox-branded handheld.
As Computex 2025 in Taipei approaches, Asus is anticipated to unveil its new devices, with the ROG Ally 2 and the Project Kennan console possibly making their first appearance alongside other new products. Microsoft may also announce developments around the same period, making the events at Computex, starting May 20, a significant moment for gaming enthusiasts.
