Apple is expected to refrain from making significant artificial intelligence (AI) announcements during the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2025, scheduled from June 9 to 13. According to reports, the tech company based in Cupertino is still progressing on its previously disclosed AI features, and it aims to avoid unveiling any functionalities that may not be ready before the launch of the new operating system versions.
Apple Intelligence Could Take a Backseat at WWDC 2025
Mark Gurman, in his Power-On newsletter, reports that while Apple has some AI tools in development, their debut is unlikely this year. Sources familiar with the company’s WWDC agenda indicate that the conference will not feature major AI-related announcements, potentially highlighting Apple’s delays in keeping pace with industry advancements.
Nevertheless, there are expectations for up to three AI-related updates. It is reported that Apple may provide third-party app developers access to its in-house large language models (LLMs) to enhance their applications or develop new AI-driven solutions. Initially, the company intends to offer its smaller models, which encompass about three billion parameters for text-related tasks.
Other anticipated AI developments include the introduction of an AI-assisted power management mode, integration of the Translate app with AirPods and Siri, and possibly rebranding various features in the Safari browser and Photos app as AI-enhanced functionalities.
Despite the lack of a robust AI unveiling this year, Gurman cites that significant projects are underway, set for future release. Among these is the ongoing overhaul of Siri, which has faced delays. Last year, Apple announced plans to enhance Siri with generative AI capabilities, aimed at enabling more conversational interactions and understanding of contextual commands.
Additionally, the company is reportedly focusing on integrating AI functionalities into its Shortcuts app, allowing users to create actions through natural language prompts. There are also reports of an internal AI chatbot with web access, alongside an AI medical service referred to as Mulberry. These features are expected to debut in 2026, possibly being showcased at next year’s WWDC.
