The long-speculated foldable iPhone from Apple is reportedly on track for a debut next year, according to a recent report from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. This anticipated device is expected to feature a design similar to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold series. Additionally, it may be based on the upcoming iPhone 17 Air (Slim), which is rumored to have an exceptionally slim profile.
Projected Launch of Foldable iPhone in 2026
In his latest Power On newsletter, Gurman has indicated that the launch date for the foldable iPhone is set for 2026. The device is expected to adopt a book-style foldable design, distinguishing it from the clamshell models available in the market.
Gurman further suggests that Apple’s foldable will incorporate many of the technologies featured in the upcoming iPhone 17 Air, which is anticipated to be Apple’s slimmest smartphone yet, with a thickness of approximately 5.5mm, not including the camera bar. Should Apple align the specifications of its foldable with those of its competitors while maintaining a thin profile, it could provide a competitive advantage in the foldable smartphone market.
The new foldable iPhone is expected to have a starting price around $2,300 (approximately Rs. 199,000) in the United States. Due to its premium pricing, the company may limit the production of this device. Features are slated to include a liquid metal hinge, a 7.8-inch inner display, and a 5.5-inch cover display, along with a side-mounted Touch ID sensor.
When folded, the foldable iPhone is predicted to measure 9.2mm in thickness and 4.6mm when unfolded. Speculations also point to a sturdy aluminum alloy middle frame, a dual rear camera configuration, and a battery capacity of about 5,000mAh.
