Apple is preparing to refresh its budget-friendly SE watch lineup, with the last model released in 2022 and the original debuting in 2020. Analyst Ross Young from Counterpoint Research has indicated that the forthcoming Apple Watch SE models may feature significant improvements in display technology. The 2022 iteration of the SE was enhanced with a contemporary Apple S8 SiP processor, aligning it more closely with the standard Apple Watch Series 8, although distinctions between the two remain minimal.

Younger provided insights into the potential display sizes for the new models in a note shared via 9to5Mac, revealing that production for the updated Apple Watch SE has already begun, hinting at a potential launch in the near future.

According to Young, the next-generation Apple Watch SE will feature display sizes of 1.6 inches and 1.8 inches. In comparison, the currently available models come with displays of 1.57 inches and 1.78 inches. Given this increase, it is likely that the new SE models will be released in corresponding larger case sizes, possibly moving towards 41mm and 45mm cases.

Following the advancements seen in the 2022 model with upgraded chips that matched the more expensive Apple Watch options, Apple appears poised to expand its SE lineup into larger, standard sizes, setting them apart from the premium models.

With the Apple Watch Series 10 now available in 42mm and 46mm versions, the company may aim to position its more affordable offerings alongside these classic sizes, further distinguishing its product lines.

The Apple Watch Series 10, launched last year, introduced a 46mm option featuring a 1.96-inch display, marking it as the largest screen yet offered, even surpassing the 1.92-inch display of the Watch Ultra 2, which has a 49mm case size.

Additionally, there were earlier indications that Apple might shift from aluminium to plastic for the Apple Watch SE’s chassis. Recent reports suggest that the financial implications of this material switch are challenging for Apple, and some on the design team have expressed concerns regarding the aesthetic quality of a plastic model.
