On Thursday, Apple announced its fiscal earnings for the third quarter of 2025, highlighting a significant achievement. During an earnings call, CEO Tim Cook disclosed that the company has recently shipped its three-billionth iPhone since the device’s debut in 2007. Estimates suggest that it took Apple less than five years to transition from two billion to three billion iPhone shipments.
3 Billion iPhone Sold
In the earnings call, Cook announced that Apple generated a revenue of $94.04 billion (approximately Rs. 8.22 lakh crore) in Q3 2025, reflecting a 10 percent increase from the same period last year. The iPhone lineup was a major contributor, capturing nearly 50 percent of the total revenue at $44.58 billion (around Rs. 3.90 lakh crore).
Before detailing the revenue figures for other product lines, the Apple CEO mentioned reaching the three-billionth iPhone shipment. The first iPhone was introduced by Steve Jobs in 2007, and it took nearly a decade for Apple to achieve the milestone of one billion units, which was reached on July 16.
While the company has not specified the date it shipped its two-billionth iPhone, analysts believe this occurred in 2021, suggesting a six-year span to move from one billion to two billion units. Notably, reaching the three-billion mark appears to have occurred in a shorter duration of four years.
“From the Pro models with the powerhouse A18 Pro and innovative Pro camera features to the iPhone 16e with breakthrough battery life and a 2-in-1 camera system, users are finding many reasons to love the best iPhone lineup we’ve ever created,” Cook stated.
For Q3 2025, Apple reported earnings of $1.57 (approximately Rs. 137) per share, with a profit of $23.42 billion (around Rs. 2.04 lakh crore). Revenue from the Mac and iPad segments amounted to $8.05 billion (approximately Rs. 0.70 lakh crore) and $6.58 billion (around Rs. 0.57 lakh crore), respectively.
Additionally, Apple’s wearables, home, and accessories division recorded earnings of $7.4 billion (approximately Rs. 0.64 lakh crore).
