During the recent Galaxy Unpacked 2025 event, Samsung confirmed its intentions to introduce a multi-fold device in the near future. With Huawei already leading the market, there are high expectations for Samsung as the only smartphone manufacturer capable of mass-producing foldable smartphones globally. Following the announcement, speculation has arisen that this new device will debut alongside the forthcoming Galaxy Z Fold series. Tentatively named the Galaxy G Fold, new information has emerged regarding its model number and anticipated market availability.
According to a report by SmartPrix, details about the model numbers of Samsung’s upcoming tri-fold device were discovered in the GSM Association database. This suggests that a fall launch could be on the horizon, with the source noting that Samsung consistently registers its devices with the GSMA and has deciphered these model numbers despite the company using internal codenames to obscure them.
The Galaxy G Fold models have reportedly been identified with the model numbers SM-F968N and SM-F9680. Following Samsung’s naming conventions, the device’s code includes “F968,” with the final characters representing the respective markets for launch.
SmartPrix indicates that the ‘N’ in SM-F968N signifies a release for South Korea, Samsung’s home market. Conversely, the ‘O’ in SM-F9680 indicates that this variant will target the Chinese market. The report also asserts that Samsung plans to brand this tri-fold device under the Fold name, diverging from the W designation previously employed for foldable devices introduced in China.
Regarding the anticipated timeline for the launch, the source outlined that Samsung typically releases its products six to seven months post-GSMA registration, making it likely that this model, designated Q7M in the market, will be unveiled around October 2025. While it may disappoint some to see the initial launch limited to these two markets, the introduction of competition in the tri-fold space is promising. With Huawei having recently launched its Mate XT Ultimate on a global scale, now appears to be the opportune moment for Samsung to enter the tri-fold arena.
