The highly anticipated cage fight between Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg has taken a surprising turn. On Sunday, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced via a post on Threads that he is stepping back from the planned showdown, stating he would rather “focus on competing with people who take the sport seriously.”

Zuckerberg expressed his frustration regarding Musk’s commitment, saying, “I think we can all agree Elon isn’t serious and it’s time to move on. I offered a real date. Dana White offered to make this a legit competition for charity. Elon won’t confirm a date, then says he needs surgery, and now asks to do a practice round in my backyard instead.”

The post did not sit well with Musk, who quickly retaliated on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter. In one post, he referred to Zuckerberg as “a chicken.”

After a user on X suggested that Zuckerberg was “trying to chicken out,” Musk responded with a joke, saying, “He can’t eat at chic fil because that would be cannibalism.”

Musk further teased his intentions by telling another user, “Can’t wait to bang on his door tomorrow.”

According to Variety, the dialogue about a potential mixed martial arts-style cage match began in June when Musk replied to a Twitter thread, expressing his willingness to compete. He stated, “I’m up for a cage match if he is lol.”

Recently, Musk indicated that the prospective “Zuck v Musk fight” would be live-streamed on X, with all proceeds designated for charity. In a pointed response, Zuckerberg suggested a different approach, quipping on Threads, “Shouldn’t we use a more reliable platform that can actually raise money for charity?”
