On Monday, Zoom announced a series of new artificial intelligence (AI) enhancements aimed at its AI Companion. The latest update equips the AI assistant with advanced capabilities, including task execution, integration with agents, and sophisticated models. According to the company, the AI Companion will soon be capable of performing tasks autonomously and managing complex actions through its reasoning and memory functions. These features are set to be integrated across multiple Zoom platforms, including Zoom Meetings, Team Chat, Zoom Phone, Contact Center, and other business solutions.

Zoom Introduces New AI Features

In a press release, Zoom outlined several AI functionalities that are expected to roll out in the coming months. Among these is Zoom Tasks with AI Companion, which aims to identify, complete, and manage tasks within its Workplace platform. For example, the feature can recognize action items from meeting summaries, chats, and emails, subsequently handling relevant tasks such as scheduling follow-up meetings or creating documents. This feature is anticipated to launch by the end of March.

Also unveiled was the Meeting Agendas feature which enhances participant focus during discussions. Meeting hosts will have the ability to establish timed agendas and receive AI-generated live notes throughout the session. At the conclusion of the meeting, the assistant will outline other action items. This functionality is expected to be available in May.

The live notes capability will extend to Zoom Phone, offering real-time summaries during phone calls to help users stay engaged with agenda topics and catch up. Additionally, a voicemail summarization option and support for the Microsoft Teams app will be introduced. In late March, Zoom’s mobile Workplace app will receive a new voice recorder that can transcribe and summarize in-person conversations while identifying action items through AI Companion.

Another notable introduction is the AI Companion for Workspace Reservation, designed for hybrid work environments. This feature will assist professionals by indicating their in-office schedule, suggesting optimal days for office attendance based on meetings, and facilitating desk or Zoom Room bookings. This enhancement is slated to launch in May.

Further AI improvements are also planned for other Zoom products. Zoom Docs will now have enhanced capabilities to generate higher-quality content, formulate writing plans based on prompts, search both internal databases and external resources for information, and generate relevant documents. This feature is expected to be released in June.

The AI Companion will also be upgraded to automatically create data tables from meeting summaries, with clearly labeled columns for easy navigation of information. This feature is projected to be available in July.

Additionally, Zoom will introduce Zoom Drive, a centralized repository for meeting and productivity resources such as Zoom Docs, streamlining access to materials across Zoom Workplace. This will launch in May.

The Zoom Contact Centre will also benefit from new agentic functions. A new virtual agent, equipped with natural language processing, will be able to manage complex queries and execute tasks on behalf of users. This agent will support both voice and text inputs.

Moreover, several other agents will be incorporated for quality management, along with an agent router capable of performing real-time intent analysis of customers to connect them with the most appropriate agent.

For users seeking personalized AI solutions, Zoom is set to offer a custom AI Companion add-on, providing granular control over the assistant’s functionality. This will grant access to the AI Studio, enabling organizations to customize the assistant according to their specific requirements by adding unique vocabulary, integrating internal data sources, and incorporating third-party applications.

The Zoom AI Companion will also include custom avatars for Zoom Clips, allowing users to efficiently produce video clips with the assistant handling the creation process based on provided scripts. The custom AI Companion add-on is priced at $12 (approximately Rs. 1,038) per month and will be available for purchase in April.

For users with paid Zoom accounts, the end-user-focused AI Companion across various platforms will be provided free of charge.
