YouTube is set to incorporate Google’s cutting-edge artificial intelligence (AI)-driven video generation model, Veo 3, as announced by CEO Neal Mohan during the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity 2025 on Wednesday. This integration aims to enhance video generation features for users, enabling the creation of AI-generated backgrounds and clips for Shorts with improved quality and functionality.

In a recent blog post, CEO Neal Mohan emphasized that YouTube is already empowering creators with advanced AI tools, including Dream Screen, which allows users to design AI backgrounds and video elements for the Shorts platform. The integration of Google’s Veo 3 model is expected to significantly enhance these capabilities.
The introduction of Veo 3 is anticipated to elevate the quality of generated videos and incorporate audio support. While YouTube plans to roll out these enhancements “this summer,” a specific timeline for the launch has yet to be disclosed.
Unveiled at Google I/O 2025 in May, the Veo 3 model features native audio generation, allowing for the inclusion of ambient sounds, background noise, and dialogue. Additionally, the model is designed to improve adherence to user prompts, simulate real-world physics accurately, and achieve reliable lip syncing.
Mohan further noted the impact of YouTube’s AI innovations in removing barriers for creators. The Auto Dubbing feature, which translates videos into nine languages, has broadened the reach of over 20 million videos since its introduction six months ago.
In a related development, Canva has also launched a new text-to-video tool powered by the Veo 3 model. Titled Create a Video Clip, this feature allows users to produce cinematic-quality video clips complete with native audio. Once generated, videos can be refined using a variety of tools in Canva’s Video Editor.
Create a Video Clip is part of the Canva AI suite and is currently only accessible to paid subscribers. Initially, users are limited to five video generations per month, though Canva is exploring ways to expand these capabilities.
