YouTube is reportedly set to unveil a more affordable iteration of its ad-free YouTube Premium subscription, potentially named YouTube Premium Lite. This new offering may allow users to enjoy streaming services with advertisements for select types of content and is expected to be rolled out in four countries after undergoing several months of testing.
YouTube Premium Lite May Include Ads for Music Videos
According to a source close to YouTube’s plans, Bloomberg reported that the launch is anticipated to occur in Australia, Germany, Thailand, and the United States. The new subscription plan is likely to be priced below the current $13.99 (approximately Rs. 1,200) monthly fee for the existing ad-free service in the US.
While the specific pricing details for YouTube Premium Lite remain unconfirmed, the report indicates that subscribers to this plan would encounter advertisements while viewing music videos. Users engaging with other video content should not expect to see ads unless they choose to watch music-related videos.
This potential new subscription could particularly appeal to those who primarily utilize YouTube for educational or instructional content, provided they do not frequently watch music videos. Such users may enjoy ad-free viewing on most of the platform, but would need to opt for YouTube Premium to access music videos without interruptions.
Although an official announcement regarding the launch of this lower-priced plan is still pending, a company representative hinted that a new offering featuring “most videos ad-free” is under trial in various markets. The spokesperson stated, “As part of our commitment to provide our users with more choice and flexibility, we’ve been testing a new YouTube Premium offering with most videos ad-free in several of our markets,” according to Bloomberg.
It remains uncertain if or when YouTube Premium Lite might be introduced in additional regions, such as India. Currently, the YouTube Premium subscription costs Rs. 149 per month, with a student plan available for Rs. 99, and a Premium Family plan priced at Rs. 299. Additionally, users have the option of subscribing to YouTube Music Premium for Rs. 119 a month.
