Starting October 3rd, Microsoft will implement price increases for its Xbox Series S and X consoles in the United States. The Xbox Series X will see its price rise to $649.99 from the current price of $599.99, while the Xbox Series S will go up to $399.99 from $379.99.
The company attributes these increases to shifts in the economic landscape, hinting at factors such as tariffs. Notably, prices for Xbox consoles in markets outside the United States will not change. Additionally, prices for controllers and headsets in the U.S. will remain unaffected.
The new pricing structure means a $20 increase for the Xbox Series S, while the Xbox Series X will see an increase of $50. The specialized 2TB Galaxy Black Special Edition Xbox Series X will be priced at $799.99, a $70 hike from its previous price.
Below is a summary of the new prices in the U.S:
Product | New US price (RRP) | Previous US price (RRP) |
Xbox Series S (512GB) | $399.99 | $379.99 |
Xbox Series S (1TB) | $449.99 | $429.99 |
Xbox Series X | $649.99 | $599.99 |
Xbox Series X Digital | $599.99 | $549.99 |
Xbox Series X 2TB Galaxy Black Special Edition | $799.99 | $729.99 |
This price adjustment follows a previous increase in May, when Microsoft raised prices for various Xbox products, including the consoles, controllers, and headsets. Those changes had already pushed the price of the Xbox Series X up by $100 and the Series S by $80. Combined with the current announcement, the total price increase for the Xbox Series X in the U.S. is now $150, and $100 for the Series S within a span of six months.
The 2TB Galaxy Black Special Edition Xbox Series X debuted nearly a year ago with a price tag of $599.99 and will soon hit $799.99, marking a total increase of $200 within the year. This latest announcement marks the second price hike of the year, following the previous adjustments made in 2023.
Microsoft had also intended to raise some of its first-party Xbox game prices to $80 during the holiday season but reversed that decision in July.
